Our People
The methodology lives in the people who teach it.
Legacy was built so that no child’s success would depend on a single person.
The methodology lives in the walls, the systems, and a faculty trained in the methods that work for children with dyslexia and language-based learning differences.
The people on this page are specialists, not generalists. Many came to Legacy after years in other settings, and chose to teach this population on purpose. They are certified in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, and the other structured-literacy methods the school relies on, and they work with the same students all year, so that every child is known well by the adults who teach them.
Together they make Legacy what it is. Meet them below.
Leadership
-

Jamie Caplan, Esq.
Founder & Head of School
Jamie Caplan is both an attorney and a speech-language pathologist — the rare person trained to understand how a child learns and to fight for that child within the system. She earned her degree in speech-language pathology at Towson University, then a law degree, and spent five years representing families against school districts that would not provide what children with dyslexia needed to learn to read. When nine of those families could not find a school that would serve their children, fighting the system stopped being enough. Jamie found a building and opened Legacy in 2011 — the school those families could not find anywhere else.
