02 Apr Peep these Peeps!
At Legacy we celebrate the arts everyday. Students spend time every week in visual arts and music classes, and our art teacher, Ms. Jen leads an after school art club. Art education helps students build confidence in their creativity, strengthen their ability to work together, and develop adaptive problem solving skills. For many students, art is important because it is fun to make and explore with different mediums.
Luckily for Legacy students, our school is based in Carroll County, Maryland, where arts are also celebrated. In 2024 the Carroll County Arts Council hosted its 17th Annual Peep Show. This art exhibition and competition asks artists to develop masterpieces made of an iconic Spring treat, Marshmallow Peeps! The sweet and sticky bunnies and chicks are turned into paintings, sculptures, and dioramas for the competition. The competition raises money to support the Carroll County Arts Council. Residents and interested parties are able to vote on favorite pieces. You can learn more about the competition and view a gallery of the 2024 participants here.
Legacy’s art club chose to create a piece titled “Crossing Morgan Run.” This diorama features paintings and landscape created by a team of Legacy students. Morgan Run is a river that run near our campus in Carroll County, and through nearby parks and natural areas. Green Peeps were used to create a textured landscape full of grass, trees, and bushes. Other Peeps were given boats and items to enjoy some recreational fun in the diorama river.
