Welcome to The Legacy School: See the Big Picture
Legacy sits on 8 beautiful acres in Carroll County, Maryland. We spread our offices, classrooms, and tutoring spaces between three buildings. This gives our students plenty of space to learn. Outside are grassy spaces to study, play, and socialize. In the summer students can enjoy the pool, and all year round enjoy a basketball court, playground, and Gaga Ball pit.

Main Building and Upper School
Students in the Main Building and Upper School change classes for reading, writing, language, literature, math, social studies, and science. All Upper School and Lower School students have customized, individualized daily 1:1 tutoring.

The Legacy School’s Camp Terrapin offers campers a mix of academics and play, including two daily swim periods in an outdoor pool staffed by certified lifeguards.

Primary and Admissions Building
Students in the Primary Building receive daily 1:1 reading tutoring sessions, during which they learn sight words, progress in reading fluency, and develop phonological awareness. In math, they learn arithmetical concepts, number sense, and math facts, as well as problem solving in full class and small groups of up to three students.
Barn Building-Lower School and Gym
Each Lower School student receives a 45-minute daily tutoring session and an individualized 45-minute reading lesson utilizing Orton-Gillingham methodologies. As a group, students participate in additional reading lessons and fluency practice as well as a dedicated writing session.

Nestled on a peaceful, tree-lined campus in southern Carroll County, The Legacy School offers a warm and welcoming environment designed to help students with Dyslexia and other language-based learning differences thrive. Bright, cozy classrooms provide a calm setting for focused learning, while flexible seating and multi-sensory materials reflect the school’s commitment to meeting each child’s individual needs. From the moment students walk through the doors, they are greeted by an atmosphere of understanding, encouragement, and possibility.
The campus features dedicated spaces for 1:1 tutoring, small-group instruction, and specialized programs in reading, writing, and math. Every corner of the school is intentionally designed to support growth and confidence: whether in our Orton-Gillingham-based tutoring suites, student-centered math classrooms, or vibrant spaces for art, music, and physical education that encourage creativity and movement. Students benefit from integrated speech-language therapy and counseling services right on campus, ensuring consistent support throughout their day.
Outdoor learning is also a hallmark of the Legacy experience. Students enjoy open green spaces for movement breaks, social interaction, and exploration – essential parts of nurturing both academic and emotional development.
